What does a bathroom remodel involve?
It depends on how far things move. A remodel that keeps the plumbing where it is and changes surfaces, fixtures and finishes is a contained job. A remodel that relocates a shower, a toilet or a vanity is a different project, because the plumbing has to move and that means opening floors or walls. We have done bathroom remodels and we will tell you at the walkthrough which of those two you are describing, because it changes everything downstream.
How long will I be living around it?
That is the real question and we treat it as one. Interior work is disruptive in a way a roof is not: it is inside the house, it makes dust, and it takes a room out of service. We sequence work so that the rooms you need most are out of action for the shortest time we can manage, and we will be straight with you about which days are the bad ones. We will not put a completion date on the job before we have seen the space.
What is finish carpentry and why does it show?
Trim, casing, doors, baseboards and the joints between them. It is the last thing done and the first thing anyone notices, because the eye reads a badly mitred corner immediately even when it cannot say why. We do door and casing work as its own line of business, not as an afterthought at the end of a bigger job.
Do you paint?
Yes, as part of interior finish work. Paint is where a remodel either looks finished or looks nearly finished, and the preparation underneath it does most of the work.
What drives the cost of a remodel?
The finish level, which is the largest single factor and the one entirely within your control. Whether anything moves, meaning plumbing, electrical or walls, since moving them turns a surface job into a structural one. The age of the house, because older houses hide surprises behind the drywall and those surprises are found rather than predicted. The size of the space. And how much of the house has to stay usable while the work runs. We price a remodel after we have walked the rooms.
Can you handle the whole interior?
Yes. And if the project touches the structure or the roof, that stays with us too, which means there is no point where one company hands off to another and the schedule quietly slips a fortnight.
Can you match existing trim and finishes?
Usually, and where an exact match is not available we will say so before the work starts rather than after. Older houses in Bryan and College Station often carry profiles that are no longer stocked, and the honest options are to source a close match, to have the profile milled, or to change out the trim in the whole room so that it reads as deliberate instead of as a repair. Which of those makes sense depends on the room and on your budget, and it is a conversation worth having at the walkthrough.
Do you take on kitchens?
Yes. A kitchen is the most disruptive room in a house to remodel, because it is the room a household cannot easily do without, and the sequencing matters more than in any other space. Cabinetry lead times usually set the schedule rather than the construction itself, so the earlier those decisions are made, the shorter the period you spend without a working kitchen.
