We pour the slab, frame the structure, roof it and finish the ceiling. One company for the whole cover, which on a patio matters more than on almost any other job, because a patio cover is four trades stacked on top of each other and every seam between them is a place for water to get in.
What a patio cover actually involves
The slab comes first and it decides everything above it. Thickness at the edges, reinforcement, and the fall away from the house so water runs off rather than back toward the foundation. Almost all of it is settled before the truck arrives, and none of it is visible afterwards.
The structure
Posts, beams and rafters, sized for the span. On a gabled cover that means a king post truss, which is what carries the ridge and lets the span open up without a post in the middle of your patio.
The roof
Shingles matched to the house, so the cover reads as part of the building rather than something bolted on. Flashing where the new roof meets the existing wall is where a patio cover leaks, and it is the detail worth asking any builder about.
The ceiling
Tongue and groove, stained, is the finish that turns a cover into a room without walls. Fans and recessed lights go in before the boards close it up, which is why the electrical has to be decided early rather than added later.

What drives the cost
Span, and whether it needs a truss or can sit on beams. Whether the slab exists, and whether it is sound and falls the right way. Attached against freestanding, because attached means flashing into the existing roof. Ceiling finish, and whether electrical goes in. Access for a concrete truck. We put all of it in a written scope before any number is discussed.
